The moon system adapted for musical notation

This paper outlines a means by which Dr William Moon's embossed symbols, originally devised to transcribe inkprint, may be used to represent musical notation. Adequate skill with braille is often difficult to attain, particularly for the newly blind adult. This adaptation of moon for reading and writing music is offered as an alternative to the already existing braille notation. All the required symbols can be written with the recently developed Moonwriter. Possible research avenues are briefly explored, and the need for back-up services stressed, should the system be considered viable.
