DOI: 10.1177/026461969701500203 Advisory Services for the Visually Impaired in the Northern Territory of Australia: a Unique Experience
Working in a remote area such as the Northern Territory of Australia as an advisory teacher of visually impaired children and young people is very different from comparable services in the United Kingdom. While there are similarities, differences emerge in approaches to individual support and client groups; and difficulties arise out of climatic conditions and geographical isolation. Working with the Aboriginal population has its own set of interesting challenges. The Paper concludes with an examination of the perceived strengths and weaknesses of the service.
